When I was a teenager, I used to spend my summer holidays at the beach and watch Baywatch. It was a time when most people didn´t travel to another countries, at least not in Spain, so, for me, Baywatch was synonymous with the beach. It wasn’t perceived as a sexy series, but rather as a show about lifeguards; I think that was the reason it became so popular in Europe.
I couldn´t watch After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun in Spain and I don´t know if we’ll be able to see the new version of Baywatch in 2027—I’m afraid not—but perhaps I’ll be able to see it in New York next year.
But today I want to talk about the Erika Eleniak´s return to Baywatch, because for me, she is the soul of Baywatch. Her character, Shauni McClain, was my favorite, because she was not only a beauty but also a role model. She was kind, a good person and a normal person after all. And Erika is just like that.
I’ve been in touch with Erika for a few years now, and she’s always there for me when I need her most. I think she should return as a regular member of the cast of the new Baywatch and I’m going to explain why.
I am a journalist, writer and podcaster, but I also work as a teacher and teenagers need good role models like her, not only as the character she plays but as herself too. Shauni can show new generations that it is possible to evolve in life, change careers, and help others in everything one does. On the other hand, Erika, as a real person, can demonstrate to teenagers that one can be famous while remaining a normal, good person who tries to help others; she can inspire them to improve every day in any area, to fight for their dreams, to grow, and to be good people…
And because all of that I am very happy for Erika, because she deserves to be in the new Fox reboot and I think she is a jewel for the show. Without a doubt, we want to see Erika as a regular cast member on Baywatch and we also want to see the series air across Europe.
